Due Process of Law

To ensure that the law would not deteriorate to be an effective governing instrument of authoritarian rule, the enforcement of laws must satisfy the requirements of fair procedures. In criminal proceedings, the principle of presumption of innocence must be respected. The procedures of arrest and trial also have to be fair. Administrative processes must satisfy the requirements of natural justice. Those affected by administrative decisions have the right to fair hearing. Decision makers should not be biased and must give reason for their decisions.
