Law Obedience and the Rule of Law

Law should be complied with. However, obeying the law is not equal to the rule of law. Rule of law has a deeper meaning than simple law compliance. It is argued that law obedience is necessary yet not sufficient for achieving the rule of law.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the meaning and functions of law

  • Understand the importance of law compliance

  • Analyse the situations when law obedience is necessary but not sufficient

  • Evaluate what is required for achieving the rule of law

Note: all teaching plans shared on this website are prepared by the ROLE team of HKU students and teachers. The materials are meant to be a suggestion of issues to cover. Teachers are suggested to adopt the materials with necessary adjustment according to the situations in their own classes.
