ROLE Secondary School Seminars 2021

The Rule of Law Education Project (ROLE) started in April 2012 and was revamped in 2020. We aim at enhancing public understanding of the rule of law through different educational activities. To date, we have organized more than 100 seminars and lectures for secondary schools throughout Hong Kong. The purpose of this project is to promote a better understanding of the rule of law among secondary school students, as well as to give our law students practical teaching and lecture delivery experience.

 

ROLE seminars are designed and conducted by HKU law students under the guidance of Faculty of Law supervisors, to ensure that learning activities are tailor-made to meet the needs of each secondary school. The seminars are free of charge, so are the accompanying written teaching materials which we will provide to the school after the seminar.

 

This year, the details of this program are as follows:

Date: June 21 - July 9, 2021

​

Duration: 60-90 min

​

Format: Face-to-Face (if COVID restrictions allow) or Online

Please note: If face-to-face mode is preferred, we will make arrangements to deliver online if public health situations so require.

​

Language: Cantonese or English

 

Target audience: Form 4 to Form 6 students (please contact us if other forms of students are preferred)

 

Topics of the seminar:

We will select the final topic according to your preferences and our availability. Please note that the titles below provide the main themes; final contents of the presentation will be determined by HKU law students who prepare the materials under our supervision.

  • Major legal systems in the World and an Introduction to Law

  • The Common Law System and its Ideology; The Rule of law in Comparative Context

  • From Colony to SAR: Evolution of Hong Kong’s Legal System; The Legislative Process in Hong Kong

  • Hong Kong’s Court System and the Making of Common Law; The Legal Profession in Hong Kong

  • Political Economy of Justice: Access to Justice in Hong Kong; Hong Kong’s Jury System​

  • Hong Kong's Judiciary

  • Protection of Rights in Hong Kong​
