Separation of Powers

Most states in the world allocate the governmental powers to the executive, judicial and legislative branches. However, separation is just the first step; checks and balances are more important.

  • Understand the theoretical basis of the separation of powers

  • Understand the functions of the different governmental branches

  • Analyse how the branches can check and balance each others
